So whether you want to relax in a green space, play a round of golf, let the kids burn off energy, or go for a hike, the district has you covered. Play a Round of Golf
Have you been itching to get out on the greens? The Decatur Park District has two championship-style courses. The courses are both 18 holes and provide ample challenges for golfers of all levels. Oh, and now is a great time to go since the park district is slashing prices for the rest of the season.
But what if you aren’t comfortable with a club? You can still play golf, but instead of hitting balls, you’ll throw discs. Nelson Park’s disc golf course also has 18 holes of varying difficulty, and it’s free to use. Now, that’s a great reason to go out and give it a try.
Hit the Trails
The district has close to 10 miles of paved trails for you to use. If you like to run, you’ll appreciate that the district is designated as a runner-friendly community due to the trails. You don’t have to run to enjoy the trails, though. You can also fly down the trails on your bike or go for a stroll.
Spend Time at a Park
The district also boasts numerous gorgeous parks packed to the brim with activities. Fairview Park is a local favorite, thanks to the paved trails, tennis courts, duck pond, and skate park. And it even has a dog park, so bring Fido along for some fun. He’s sure to enjoy running off-leash at the park.
Then, there’s Nelson Park, which just might be the most beautiful option. It’s also a nice destination for biking, hiking, and walking, and you can have a picnic here. Keep this park in mind as you roll into winter. It’s the premier destination for sledding, so you’ll want to head over when the conditions are right. Take in Some Art
You can even immerse yourself when hanging out inside the Decatur Park District. Scovill Sculpture Park is one of Decatur’s crown jewels, with 12 stunning sculptures on display. The park is free to enter and is just a short walk to the Scovill Zoo. The zoo is closed for the season, but keep in mind when you visit next year.
