As the weather warms up and the flowers start to bloom, why not spend a day outside enjoying our beautiful city of Decatur? With 2,000 acres of parkland, our city offers a plethora of outdoor fun for everyone. You can take a stroll around the lake, rent a pavilion for a family event, or take your furry friend to one of the dog parks. Here’s a quick round-up of the best Decatur parks to explore during the balmy spring weather.
Play Disc Golf at the Historic Nelson Park
Nelson Park is one of Decatur’s most visited parks. It has several pavilions for hosting events, and the rolling hills and trails are plenty of fun to explore. There is even an 18 hole disc golf course for people of all ages. If you’ve never heard of disc golf, don’t worry. It’s a very easy game to learn. Participants play disc golf similarly to the way traditional golf is played, but the objective of the game is to land a frisbee in a raised basket instead of hitting a ball into a sunken hole. It’s a whole lot of fun and a great way to get active.
Let Your Pup Run Free at Fido Fields
Fido Fields is 2-acres of off-leash freedom for you and your four-legged friend. The dog park is a fenced-in area located in Fairview Park that the community has dedicated to dogs and their owners. It’s separated into areas for small dogs and large dogs. So, if you’d like to give your dog a chance to truly stretch its legs, register your dog and plan a day of fetch and fun at Fido Fields.
